Streets Of Malaysia (Part 2)

For my second post about the streets of Malaysia. I’ll be talking about ‘Bukit Bintang’.

Bukit bintang is mostly famous for shopping malls like Pavilion, Sungai wang and Low Yat. The reason why I’m talking about bukit bintang is because usually during the weekends, one of the places where I’ll go and shop at is Pavilion or Pavi for short.

Pavilion is something similar like KLCC except it’s bigger and has more choices than KLCC. Every time I go to Pavi is usually to karaoke at Redbox as the surroundings and the service there are really good and quite affordable if you want to go with a huge group of friends and family with you. The movie theaters there are also comfortable and huge compared to the ones in KLCC, and of course the shopping there is absolute shopping heaven. There are shops like, Juicy Couture, Cotton On, Paul Frank, Forever 21, and Topshop etc. Any well-known brands, you name it – They’re all there in Pavilion. Those are few of the reasons why I picked pavilion to be my weekend shopping hang out gateway.

The next stop where you can find good affordable prices for the latest technology gadgets is Low yat. It’s usually filled with people who can’t wait to get their hands on their tech-craving like cameras, phones, video games, computers, etc. Everything is there; including a few clothing outlets but mostly Low Yat is famous for its gadgets. To be honest, Low Yat is the best place to get computers, printers etc at a pretty affordable price, well it’s got to depend on which store you pick to buy what you want.

But I’m pretty sure Low Yat is the place to be.

The area of Bukit Bintang is also filled with different varieties of restaurants such as Arabian, Western, Malay and Chinese. During the weekends, every evening the streets also has street performers such as the gold man and the silver man. Both of those performers usually attract the locals and the tourists to take a picture with them and just to enjoy for the entertainment.

Bukit Bintang is one of the places where locals and tourists would like to go to.

Streets Of Malaysia (Part 1)

Here in Malaysia, the only place where you’d find the most affordable cheapest goods is the one and only, Petaling Street or also known as China Town.

 Petaling Street is usually filled with locals and tourists splurging on things like accessories, handbags, shoes, clothing, food, etc. Anything you need, they’re all there. They’re only opened during the evening around 6pm and that’s when people will start crowding around the whole area to get what they want.

Therefore my cousin and my uncle from Singapore loves to go to Petaling street for the fun of it and of course for the things that’s being sold there. Although most goods there aren’t really original as most goods there are mostly imitations of famous brands like ‘Chanel’, ‘Gucci’ etc but hey look at the Brightside, at least they’re at an affordable price. But usually my cousin would go there just for the accessories and anything unique that catches their eye.

I’ve only been there a few times because my family and myself don't really like going to Petaling Street.

To be honest, I’ve only been to Petaling Street twice in my whole life staying here in Malaysia. I’ll give you at least 3 common reasons why I barely go to Petaling Street.

1)   There are cases of people getting pickpocket.

2)   It’s always crowded and I hate being in crowded places.

3)   Crowded people = humid, hot.

The only time I went there was to get a cheong sam for an event for my school way back when I was still in Junior school. My point of view when I saw the place was, yes I did enjoy looking at all the things that’s being sold there but somehow I didn’t like the scene of how hot, crowded and noisy it was. With people bargaining and yelling out to attract customers into buying their items.

Even though I’ve been there only twice so far, I still think it’s the best way for tourists to visit Petaling Street if they want to buy unique goods at an affordable price.

Alice In Wonderland

On the 4^th of march is the official day the movie ‘Alice in wonderland’ will be released here in Malaysia and when I was a little girl, This use to be one of my favourite Disney movie. The characters and the storyline really got me interested that I watched it too many times till I actually got bored of it.

Alice in wonderland was different that any other disney movies that mostly involves pretty princesses in gowns, magic, true love and etc which was every girls dreams and yeah I've got to admit, I did love all those fairytale stories but this movie was different. It was about a little girl being on her own in her very own adventure trying to find her way home when she accidently fell down a rabbit's hole which led her to a very weird place, where everything was different to the real world.

and also, this would be a continuation to Alice's adventure as she returned to the world she encountered during her childhood and finally reuniting back to her friends.

 The first thing I thought was ‘This is a must watch for me’ and when I found out that Tim Burton directs this movie, I already knew it would be uniquely good because Tim Burton is a genius in making movies as they’re always dark and mysterious in a way.

& Disney just released the official soundtrack for the movie,

In my opinion, I think the soundtrack so far is really great and is also quite smart to include all the popular bands and singers in this soundtrack so they’d attract all teenagers who would listen to this soundtrack and watch the movie.

So far, my favourite song from this soundtrack is ‘follow me down’ by 3OH!3 and ‘Painting flowers’ by All Time Low.

My love for Paramore ♥

This was suppose to be my blog entry for next week's, but I suddenly have the urge to write. So I guess, nothing stops a person from writing and posting it up a few days before right?

So anyways, I'll be writing about my favourite band for my first topic for next weeks :)

Most of my friends know that I’m a huge massive fan of ‘Paramore’; I’ve been listening to their music way back in 2006 when they were first discovered through their MySpace. But sadly during that time, their music were not recognised here in Malaysia and everyday I wished that one day they will be famous here in Malaysia and hopefully do a concert tour here one day.

My wish kind of came true. 

People would think I’m obsessed but I’d say that I’m a proud Paramore fan. From my opinion, I think that Hayley Williams has an amazing powerful voice and she's definitely not afraid to stand out. I’d say that she’s pretty the only one who can rock out the orangered flaming hair, no one can ever compete with that.

They already released 3 albums but I’ve got to say I love all of their 3 albums and my favourite would be their latest album that recently came out last October 2009.

I really think the lyrics off this song are really meaningful and many people can relate to it.I also thought that the music video is portrayed beautifully. This is actually their first time making a video of a soothing ballad type of song from their album and I am quite proud of them, how they’ve really changed over the years with their image and their songs. 

Next month on the  7th of March 2010 is their very first time coming down to Singapore for a concert and Obviously, I badly want to go and see them live! Since I have been wishing to see them live, but sadly I can’t go no matter how badly I really want to see them. Due to midterms the next day on the 8^th, I don’t think it’ll be a good idea for me to be in a concert a day before the exams.

 My good friend, Deanna and I are also huge paramore fans and we’re both really devastated that we can’t go and see them live.

 I really hope one day, I will see my favourite band perform live right here in Malaysia :D

Festivals.

There are many types of festivals; it can be a tradition type of festivals or music festivals.

Here in Malaysia, there are a sum of more than one religion and beliefs and therefore, I’m going to talk about the festivals in Malaysia.

Last Sunday on the 14^th of February was Valentines Day and Chinese New year. Every year, the Chinese all over the world would celebrate Chinese New Year where they’d reunite with all of their families and friends. On Monday, the 15^th February, I was invited to my friend, Tricia’s Chinese New Year’s open house and to be honest; this was my first time celebrating Chinese New Year at a friend’s house.

I’ve always wondered what celebrating Chinese New Year would be like and from what I see; it’s quite similar to how I celebrate Hari raya except the food were different of course.

Before feasting on the food, we were served to a dish called ‘Yee Sang’. It’s symbolized for ‘good luck’ as we would then tossed the ingredient of the food around the plate with chopsticks. It’s believed that the higher you toss the dish, the more luck you’d get.

I really did enjoy myself on that day and to my surprise, my friends and myself got angpau from Tricia’s parents.

And also I’m definitely excited for hari raya this year because that would be the time I’ll be back in my lovely hometown, Singapore. I’m definitely looking forward to my auntie’s delicious food that she cooks every year and of course the raya money that we’d get every year. I love hari raya the most because I’ll get to spend it with my cousins back home. I enjoy going around the streets of Singapore wearing our baju kurung visiting houses, eating the good food and sweets.

Therefore sooner this year will also be Deepavli for the Indians, where it’s called ‘Festival Of Lights’. I also think Deepavli is one of the nicest festivals in Malaysia with the decorations, dancing and the prettiest lights around. I also think its quite creative how they’d take up their time to form a kolam right outside their house with colouful rice to form exquisite designs.

Animal Rights, Part 2.

Not many people in this world actually cares about how animals are being treated these days.  People have their own opinions and have different views of things. As I mentioned in my previous post about Animal Rights, I watched an episode of ‘Janice Dickinson’s Modeling Agency’ a year ago about Animal Rights. She showed videos about how animals are being treated and in the end, this was to say that her agency is a ‘No Fur’ Policy and her models all agreed to this except for one.

 She said she would still wear fur and because of this everyone in the agency was against her except for Janice Dickinson because she knows everyone has their own opinion of things. 

I was shocked that she still would wear fur after Janice showing a video about how animals are being treated but then I felt sorry for her just because of this matter everyone was against her. Luckily for her, in the end everyone started realising that she has the right to have her own opinions.

Overall, I still think people in this world are still fighting for their rights on Animal Rights and I support them. Trying their best to stop animal cruelty, We should definitely look up to them for taking their time just to save animals lives.

Fighting for animal rights is what need.

Animal Rights, Part 1.

What is Animal Rights? 

An animal right is where organisations or volunteers do their part to protect animals from being abused or causing any pain or suffering from humans.

Humans might also use fur from animals to make clothing and home deco just for the fun of it.

Most people all over the world are against animal cruelty but not everyone agrees to it and that’s their problem right?

Sometimes I’ll see news from newspapers or magazines about dogs getting left behind or is abused by their owners and they’ll end up starving and in pain. How can they do such a thing? This is just sick and wrong! You’re suppose to take care and love your pets, not by treating them badly.

My friend Louis told me a story about a restaurant here in Malaysia serving ‘Fried Chickens’ but only to find out it wasn’t really chickens they were serving but instead it was Kittens.

He even saw videos of the process of the ‘Fried Chickens’ but luckily the restaurant is now closed down!

SPCA in Malaysia has helped over 700 homeless and abused animals in one month all the time and I think they’ve done their part well by helping out animals everyday.

Even celebrities support this matter by doing their part and by stopping animal cruelty.

Last year, Janice Dickinson and her models went walking out the streets of LA with signs saying ‘We’d rather go naked than wear fur’ and since that day on her modeling agency has a 'no fur' policy.

Celebrities are also supporting this by being the president or spokesperson of organisations, for example Hayden panettiere is the campaign spokesperson for the whalesman foundation. She has been attempting to save whales from poaching/being poached.

There are more celebrities and people in this world who have done their part to save animals from animal cruelty. We should be proud and look up to these people who has done their parts in saving these poor and helpess animals.
